from the community. Parents, business owners, and Audubon members advised us to work with children to help them deepen their appreciation and understanding of nature and to teach them how to become nature’s guardians.
Audubon’s Kids + Nature
is a program that helps children learn about the natural world and recognize the interdependent relationship between people and nature. It encourages learning through discovery, creative expression, problem-solving, and playful outdoor activities.
Through the eyes of a bird, students will learn about the important roles of trees, water, air, and soil and how these elements work together to create a healthy environment for all living things.
Accompanied by their families they will experience the rewards of tending to nature, such as planting trees, serving as citizen scientists, creating pollinator gardens, and improving our waterways and open spaces.
Our future plans include hosting an after-school Kids + Nature Club where students can continue to explore the wonders of nature and the natural sciences and develop academic and life skills that will carry them into the future.
More than an environmental education program, Kids + Nature
is about developing a life-long relationship with nature that may bring out an undiscovered passion or talent. It’s about building real-life skills that will help children adapt to a changing world And it’s about empowering children to make positive choices to improve their own lives and to help all of life in San Miguel thrive.
Children learn best through experiences that matter in their world.
