Birds at Risk and How We Can Help
Tues., September 20 1:30 pm – 3 pm

Over 350 species of birds that live or winter in Mexico are at the highest level of conservation concern according to the findings in the State of North American Birds 2016 report.   As of this news isn't bad enough, the report's Watch List identifies 432 species (more than one-third of all North American bird species) as being of highest conservation concern.  These are the species most at risk of extinction without significant conservation actions to reverse declines and reduce threats.

This event will provide you with a special opportunity to encounter the abundant native and migratory hummingbirds in her garden that will dazzle you with their beauty, energy, and warrior spirits.

Audubon Birdwalk along the Rio Laja near Rancho Jaguar
Sunday, Apr 17, 7:45 am-12:30 PM

With leaders Norman Besman and Luke Rich, we’ll head to a particularly beautiful spot along the Rio Laja. We may find Great and Snowy Egrets fishing in the river, along with a Green Kingfisher or two. Aloft, we could spot a Crested Caracara, a White-tailed Kite, a Turkey Vulture or a Common Raven soaring over meadow vistas.

Nature Matters Presentation Sustainable Optimism
Tuesday April 19 1:30 pm – 3 pm

Climate change, biodiversity loss, overpopulation, poverty, resource depletion, habitat destruction, ocean acidification, sea level rise; what’s there to be optimistic about?

In this wide-ranging presentation, illustrated with slides and video clips, Rob Lerner will share recent developments in renewable energy, regenerative agriculture and other fields that make him hopeful. He’ll also share some novel ideas from leading ecologists on how to think about nature in our post-wild world.

Audubon Special Event: Close Encounters of the Hummingbird Kind

Local hummingbird aficionado, Sandra Young has graciously invited Audubon de Mexico to host a special repeat performance of the event we held last month! Birding Beyond the Colors

Birds play many important roles in our environment: pollinating plants, controlling insects, dispersing seeds, and recycling nutrients back into the earth. Their changing patterns of migration and population can tell us about the effects of climate change, water quality, and changes to the landscape that affect not only birds, but people and all living things.
